Daily Raw Inspiration – Raw B12 and Protein Sources

Question of the Week

Hi Jinjee,
Your Daily Inspiration has been a great help for me.  I have been totally raw now for 6 months, and just loving the new me.  Not only have I lost weight, but I have lost it all in the right places.  My skin is just really fantastic.! Best skin care program ever! Where do we get our proteins from?  Also vitamin B12?  I am running up to 10kms a day, and my only problem is I am very tired.  My husband who is not a vegan and is eight years older is not as tired as me?  This is the only thing that I feel disillusioned about. Would love help.  I am not sure how to balance this lifestyle.  Otherwise, it’s the best thing I have done for myself.

Hi Mary,
I’m so glad you are having so many great experiences on the raw diet! Re. B12 and Protein lack, which may be the reasons behind the tiredness, here’s what we do.

For B12:
Fermented foods like Sauerkraut, pickles, mustard, and apple cider vinegar. Also laver and dulse, and nori seaweeds. Also raw honey and bee pollen.

For Protein:
Dark leafy greens have the best protein. We do these in juices, salads, kale salad, wraps, and we make a traditional greens dish putting them out in the sun with oil, salt, and topped with ground cashews. Nuts and seeds are also good protein sources.

For Calories, which some confuse with Protein, though these below have protein too:
Avocados, sprouted grains, soaked garbanzo beans.

I hope this helps!!

Your suggestions for B12 have me confused. I looked up all that I could find on nutritiondata.com and none had B12. Is there some place a person can find proof of those foods you listed containing B12?
